Purchasing and Maintenance Tips for Computer Monitors
A personal computer is made up of two important components: a computer monitor and the CPU or central processing unit. Although the CPU is the more expensive part in a personal computer, the computer monitor is still important since without it, you will not be able to see anything that will be displayed by the CPU.
When you are considering of purchasing a personal computer, you need to make sure that you are purchasing the computer with the right monitor. A good monitor should be large enough for you to clearly interact with the commands of the computer but small enough that it will not become a power hog.
Going for LCD
LCD or Liquid Crystal Display is today's preferred monitor by most first time computer buyers. The reasons are simple. LCD screens are thin flat screen monitors that will not take up enough space. They look remarkably stylish and very lightweight. The power consumption of LCD monitors are also a lot less compared to regular CRT or Cathode Ray Tube.
Although the price of LCD is a little bit more expensive compared to CRT screens, you will still save a lot in the long run because of the savings you will have in energy consumption.
The only disadvantage of LCD over CRT is that LCD sometimes have limited viewable capacity compared to CRT. All CRTs are able to display the processes from the CPU from any angle. The LCD on the other hand may have some angles that may not yield the same view. The view from other angles could be easily affected by light.
Maintenance of LCD
Clean-up of CRT monitors are very easy. All you need is a clean cloth damped with water. In no time at all, you should be able wipe your CRT monitors clean.
On the other hand, cleaning an LCD is a little bit challenging. Every time you touch your LCD screen with your hand, your fingerprint will immediately show. In CRT screens, you should be able to wipe them clean without any effort at all. But it's a totally different story when it comes to LCD screens. You can't just wipe the screen off with any cloth and water. Doing so could easily destroy your LCD screen permanently. This type of monitor is highly sensitive and could be easily destroyed.
The best way to clean your LCD is to use water with lint-free cloth. Lint could scratch the coating and easily destroy your LCD monitor. There are those that have considered using alcohol but according to most manufacturers, using alcohol will not only scratch the LCD coating but might even remove it. If you really want to use alcohol, be sure to have it in a solution preferably 50/50 with water or even less to reduce the effect of alcohol while maintaining its cleaning properties.
Last but not the least, switch off your LCD computer monitor before cleaning it. The dirt in this type of computer monitor cannot be noticed easily. For safety purposes, unplug everything before thoroughly wiping the monitor.
